Fatah and Hamas still have not agreed on who will become Prime Minister in the Palestinian unity government later. It was mentioned a number of Palestinian officials on Monday (20 / 6).
The meeting in Cairo on Tuesday (21 / 6) between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who leads Fatah, and Hamas Chief Khaled Meshal was postponed because Hamas refused to re-election of economist Salam Fayyad, a Western-backed.
"The reason for the delay in forming the government is because they have not reached an agreement about Fayyad," said an official.
"President Abbas Salam Fayyad who still want Hamas rejected his candidacy," he added.
"Fayyad undesirable because his name is associated with the partition of Palestine, the Palestinian economy is burdened with debt, and operation of security services (the Palestinians) against the resistance," said Ismail Radwan, Hamas leader of Gaza, referring to the group's armed campaign against Israel.
When the suspension was announced on Sunday (19 / 6), Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmed did not mention the leadership dispute.
